A Personal Note

Olga Tzortzatou Nanopoulou

The idea behind BioMed-AI was born in 2019, before AI became part of everyday conversations. Through my work in biomedical research, innovation, ethics, and policy, I began to see the transformative impact that artificial intelligence would have on science and healthcare and I knew we needed to start preparing for it.

BioMed-AI was created as more than a summer school. It was envisioned as a traveling community of learning moving from country to country, bringing together researchers, innovators, policymakers, and students to explore the opportunities and challenges of AI in biomedicine through a mix of local needs and international perspectives.

Every destination teaches us something new. Local voices, priorities, and experiences remind us that the future of AI must be shaped through diverse perspectives and shared responsibility.

What continues to inspire me is the chance to connect disciplines, sectors, and cultures in a conversation about how technology can best serve science, healthcare, and society.

Warmly,

Olga
