Congratulations to Professor José-Antonio Seoane and Olga Tzortzatou-Nanopoulou on securing a highly competitive national research !
We are proud to share that the project “The Regulation of Neurotechnologies: Neurorights” has been selected for fundinprojectg through Spain’s 2025 National Competitive Call for Knowledge-Generation Projects, administered by the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
Led by Professor José-Antonio Seoane, Principal Investigator and member of the AI Health Literacy Hub’s Scientific Advisory Board, this three-year research initiative (2026–2029) will examine the ethical, legal, and policy challenges posed by rapidly advancing neurotechnologies and explore emerging approaches to the protection of neurorights.
As neuroscience and neurotechnologies increasingly enable access to and influence over neural processes and mental states, important questions arise regarding mental privacy, cognitive liberty, personal identity, free will, equality, and human dignity. The NEURODER Project will bring together an international, multidisciplinary team of 15 researchers from Spain, Chile, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, and the United States, working alongside neuroscientists from the Galician Brain Stimulation Centre.
We are especially proud that two members of the AI Health Literacy Hub are part of this distinguished research team:
🔹 Professor José-Antonio Seoane – Principal Investigator and member of the Hub’s Scientific Advisory Board
🔹 Olga Tzortzatou-Nanopoulou – Co-Founder & CEO of the Nanopoulos Foundation and the AI Health Literacy Hub
This recognition reflects the growing importance of interdisciplinary collaboration at the intersection of neuroscience, ethics, law, digital rights, and public policy. We look forward to contributing to the global conversation on how neurotechnologies can be governed responsibly while safeguarding fundamental human rights.
Congratulations to the entire NEURODER team on this outstanding achievement.
